What is Visitax?

Visitax is a RIGHT that is collected by the State of Quintana Roo, it is available income, which in terms of article 25 of the Expenditure Budget for fiscal year 2024, must be allocated to the concepts mentioned in article 14 of the Law of Financial Discipline of the States and Municipalities.

Please note that VISITAX is separate from the TUA (airport usage fee) that is attached to airline tickets, as well as the environmental tax that is collected at most hotels and all-inclusive resorts.

Who is SATQ?

SATQ is the state tax authority responsible for VISITAX and the enforcement of it. SATQ sets the price for the tax which changes each year on February 1st.

What is Travelkore?

Travelkore is the official Visitax Payment system for Quintana Roo State. Travelkore manages all aspects of Visitax including payment, QR code issuance and customer service.

Why is the State collecting Visitax?

Cancun and the State of Quintana Roo are a world-renowned destination that attracts millions of visitors each year and, as such, requires significant investments to support its growth and ensure a positive experience for all visitors.

Should I be asked to pay cash for Visitax?

No, Absolutely not.

What is Article 51-Octies?

Foreign visitors entering the State of Quintana Roo shall pay a fee for the use and exploitation of property assets of the public domain.

Foreign visitors who enter the State of Quintana Roo through the southern border of the entity shall be exempt from payment.

Does Travelkore store your credit card information?

Travelkore does not store this data as it still may be vulnerable to a data breach. Your Licensed travel agent may apply a service charge for paying your VISITAX on you behalf. Please be sure that you are aware of the cost of this additional service charge.

Are there other commercial websites collecting Visitax?

Travelkore is an official VISITAX payment system that has been contracted by the Quintana Roo State appointed agency, Urquitem SA de CV, to collect Visitax. There are other sites purporting to be authorized, and they charge varying amounts as high as $56 USD. You should avoid using these sites as they are NOT AUTHORIZED to collect Visitax, and your QR code may not be valid or received by you after you have paid.

How will the charge be reflected on my credit card statement?

How much is Visitax?

The Visitax fee is set by law at 2.5 U.M.A., equivalent to 271 Mexican pesos. Travelkore has been instructed to collect this fee at a set rate of 17.00 USD or 22.50 CDN dollars. For consumers in the US or Canada, Travelkore offers the ability to pay in your local currency allowing you to avoid any fees including foreign exchange charges (up to 3%) that may be applied by your credit card company.

What is UMA?

The Measurement and Update Unit (UMA) is the economic reference in pesos to determine the amount of the payment of the obligations and assumptions provided for in the federal laws, of the federal entities, as well as in the legal provisions that emanate from all the above.

Is the service refundable?

If the QR code is not delivered, all charges will be refunded.

There are no refunds under any circumstances once the QR code has been delivered to you.

What credit cards do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Amex.

What is a government QR code?

The QR code you will receive after processing your payment is issued by the state of Quintana Roo and is the only accepted proof of payment of the tax.

When will I receive my QR code?

The QR code is generated immediately after your payment is processed. You will receive an email containing your QR code and you may also log into your free Carekore account to view or download your QR code.

What is Carekore?

Will my QR code be requested by state government officials?

Physical checks are not required, however in the event you are asked to present your QR code as a result of a random spot check, simply just present it.

What happens if I accidently delete my QR code?

You can easily retrieve your QR code by logging into your Carekore account. The code will remain in your account until you remove it or close your account.

Can I store other important documents in my Carekore account?

Yes, you can.

Do all passengers regardless of age need to pay (including infants and children)?

There is no age exemption, all foreign visitors need to pay the tax. The only people who are exempt from Visitax are Mexican Citizens, individuals with the appropriate permanent/temporary residency status (allowed to stay over 180 days) and those entering from the southern border.

When do I need to pay the tax?

You must pay the tax BEFORE leaving the state. To avoid delays at the airport, we recommend paying in advance. With Travelkore, you can pay up to a year in advance of your travel dates.

What to expect when stopped by a government official in Quintana Roo?

You must present your QR code when asked.

The officer will scan the smaller QR code, accessing a government-only dashboard to display your VISITAX records.

If you do not have a QR code, you will need to purchase one. After doing so, the officer will scan the smaller QR code to check your past payments.

If a consumer scans the small barcode you will receive an 'access denied' message, this is normal.
