Visitax Mandatory Tourist Tax

Visitax is a mandatory tourist tax established under Quintana Roo state law. All foreign visitors staying in the state are legally required to pay this tax as a condition of their visit, regardless of how travel or accommodation is booked.

Visitax must be paid separately and directly by the traveler through an authorized collection mechanism. Payment is independent of airfare purchase, package booking, or lodging arrangements and is not embedded in any transportation or accommodation transaction.

Mandatory VISITAX payment for Quintana Roo

What is Visitax?
Visitax is a mandatory tourism tax imposed by the State of Quintana Roo on foreign visitors entering the state.

Under Article 51-Octies of the State of Quintana Roo Law of Rights, foreign tourists must pay a fee for the use and enjoyment of public-domain assets and state services. The tax applies to all international visitors, regardless of length of stay, with an exemption for those entering through the southern border of Quintana Roo.

Please note that Visitax is different from taxes added to airline tickets or hotel stays and must be paid separately through the authorized online platform.
How much is Visitax?
The Visitax fee in 2026 is set to 293 Mexican pesos. Travelkore has been instructed to collect this fee at a set rate of $17.75 USD, $23.45 CAD, £14.00 GBP, or €17.00 EUR.
Why is the State collecting Visitax?
Cancun and the State of Quintana Roo are a world-renowned destination that attracts millions of visitors each year and, as such, requires significant investments to support its growth and ensure a positive experience for all visitors.

This Visitax is a Right belongs to the item or concept of available income, which in terms of article 25 of the Expenditure Budget for fiscal/tax year 2024, must be allocated to the concepts mentioned in article 14 of the Law of Financial Discipline of the States and Municipalities.
Who needs to pay? Who is exempt?
There is no age exemption, all foreign visitors need to pay the tax including infants and children.

The only people who are exempt from Visitax are Mexican Citizens, individuals with the appropriate permanent/temporary residency status allowed to stay over 180 days, and those entering from the southern border.
When do I need to pay the tax?
You must pay the tax before leaving the state. To avoid delays at the airport, we recommend paying in advance. With Travelkore, you can pay up to a year in advance of your travel dates.
Is the service refundable?
If the QR code is not delivered, all charges will be refunded.

There are no refunds under any circumstances once the QR code has been delivered to you. However, travel dates can be changed for up to one year from the date of original payment.

Will I receive a receipt?
The QR code you will receive after processing your payment is official proof of payment of the tax.

You will receive receipts with a QR code for each passenger by email, sent immediately after completing payment.

The form can be completed in minutes and accepts groups of up to 10 travelers per transaction. Passport details are required.
What is Travelkore?
Travelkore is an authorized payment system of Visitax for the State of Quintana Roo. Travelkore manages all aspects of Visitax including payment, QR code issuance, and customer service.
Who is SATQ?
SATQ is the state tax authority responsible for the VISITAX program.
Should I be asked to pay cash for Visitax?
No, cash is never accepted and payments must be made via the online platform.
Does Travelkore store your credit card information?
No. Travelkore does not store your credit card details. For security reasons, all card information is entered manually at checkout, reducing the risk of data breaches and unauthorized use.
Should I be asked to pay more than the stated amount inclusive of service and convenience charges?
Your licensed travel agent may apply a service charge for paying your VISITAX on your behalf. Please be sure that you are aware of the cost of this additional service charge.
Are there other commercial websites collecting Visitax?
Travelkore is an official VISITAX payment system that has been contracted by the Quintana Roo State appointed agency, Urquitem SA de CV, to collect Visitax.

There are other sites purporting to be authorized, and they charge varying amounts as high as $56 USD. You should avoid using these sites as they are not authorized to collect Visitax, and your QR code may not be valid or received after payment.

Is this tax included in my airline ticket?
No. Visitax is a state-mandated tourism tax required by the State of Quintana Roo for foreign visitors. It is not included in airfare or hotel charges and must be paid separately through the official Visitax online platform.

What may be included in your airfare:
DNR (Derecho de No Residente): A federal Mexican tourist fee collected by airlines as part of your ticket price. This is separate from Visitax.

TUA (Airport Usage Fee): An airport facility fee, not a tourist tax and unrelated to Visitax.

Hotels may also charge a separate environmental or sanitation fee per night.

Visitax must be paid independently to comply with Quintana Roo state regulations.
I am already travelling from another part of Mexico, do I still need to pay this tax?
Yes, Visitax is specific to the state of Quintana Roo and therefore is still a required payment. This is separate from any airport fees (TUA) or tourist taxes charged by the federal government (DNR).
